My Tribe

We are the Eagle People.
Our Gods are more powerful than yours.
They formed us from the stones of earth
and made our sculls and bones of gold.
They looked over every tribe and gave us strength of many.
Gods of darkness send ambassadors and we return their skins.
They put strange savages in the land our Gods bestowed on us.
We marched them to living death.
Then they sent a great bear to devour us.
We cut him into bleeding meat.
We have slain our brothers for the sake of truth and honor
and made their servants ours.
This is our way.

Our Gods have decreed that everything you have belongs to us.
If you stand against us we will burn your village,
drive your young into the desert,
leave your beasts' carcasses to rot.
You will curse your puny Gods when you see the might of ours.
Take arms against us if you dare.
Before you die you will see us take your women.
We are the Eagle People.
This is our way.

Now, ignorant children, we hear you call us cruel.
Do you not know our Gods have sent us
to protect you from your foolish ways?
If you will but bend we will give you what you need.
If you will but work we will pay enough to buy the bread of your market.
When your children hear our songs they will forget crude drums and dances.
When they taste our foods they will turn away from fire pots.
They will abandon useless Gods and gladly trade their toil for our favor.
We will give them more than your poor land can offer.
We will treat them kindly.
We are the Eagle People.
This is our way.
